Antique Kittinger 8-inch Terrestrial World Globe on a Mahogany Wooden Stand

About the Item

A fine, antique 8 inch terrestrial globe. Manufactured by Kittinger Company, Inc. (in collaboration with the publishers W. & A.K. Johnston, Ltd. of Edinburgh, Scotland). On a turned mahogany wooden base. From the late 1920s or early 1930s. Having a metal hour ring with a calibrated full metal meridian rotating in a meridian fork, the a horizon band with zodiac and solar calendar, and ocean current guides. With an applied Kittinger label in the Northern Hemisphere. Marked to the base with a metal Kittinger tag. Perfect size for a desk or table-top. Simply a wonderful globe! Date: Early 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There is yellowing to the gores and paper in the horizontal band, some light spot of lifting to the paper (mostly near the North Pole), and some spots of losses (the largest of which is in the horizontal bar). Otherwise, there is some rubbing to the metal finish, some fine & light scratches throughout, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Kittinger Company, Inc. in collaboration with W. & A.K. Johnston, Ltd. Marks: Marked with a Kittinger label in the Northern Hemisphere and to the base with a metal Kittinger tag.
