19th C. Ship Captain's Inlaid Burl Davenport Desk

About the Item

A fine Captain’s desk in particularly well chosen and colorful Burl wood with string inlaid details and ebonized moldings. The very top with a 3/4 brass gallery and worn brass plaque over a black tooled leather slant front that lifts up. The interior in satinwood with two short drawers. The apron with a wood escutcheon (lacking a key). Both sides with four small drawers (lacking keys), The lower front case with a carved decorative oval panel, the whole raised on extended front legs with a darker scrolled carved detail. All legs on wooden castors. H. 35", W. 22", Depth 18 1/2" Condition: Please see all detail photos. There is a well-worn top with old stains, scratches to the leather, time- worn casters, expected nicks, slight chips , scratches and tarnished brass, all of which do not detract from the authentic and fine presentation.
