About the Item

Good size, antique bible stand with stylized IHS symbol in Gothic quatrefoil. This beautifully and richly hand-carved Gothic bible stand dates from circa 1890-1910 and it is entirely made of solid (tiger) oak. This rare church relic is in great condition and it has the most beautiful patina. The letters IHS refer to the first three letters of the name of Jesus in the ancient Greek alfabet and here they are perfectly hand carved in a Gothic letter type inside another Gothic symbol, the quatrefoil, which is another famous and meaningful Gothic symbol. The perfectly carved leaf motifs, but also the Gothic church window-like design of the sides / legs of this ecclesiastical antique are other elements and details that make this bookstand such an attractive piece to own and to look at. And as far as its condition is concerned, we wished that we found all our antiques in this condition, because apart from some truly minor imperfections this antique stand simply could not be in better nor in a more original condition. It stands as strong and stable as the day it was handcrafted and it has the most amazing patina. No matter where you decide to have it on display, this antique will never fail to impress.
