Devotional Statues / Religious Sculptures of St. Francisco de Jesus Marto & More

About the Item

Antique and extremely rare Christian sculptures with maker's marks. These highly collectible devotional sculptures date from the early 1900s and they are both marked on the back. Because of their rarity, there is no telling who the maker might have been. Devotional statuettes are almost always of Christ, Mary or other saints or angels. We have never seen one of a child so to find two was even more special. From a more knowledgable person than we are, we have learned that these statues represent 2 of the 3 children ("The 3 Little Seers") who in 1917 witnessed multiple visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal. The boy is St. Francisco de Jesus Marto and the girl is either his cousin Lucia dos Santos or Francisco's younger sister, St. Jacinta de Jesus Marto. These statues therefor would most likely have been part of a 4-piece grouping that would also have included Mary and the other girl who (like the other 2 children) would be kneeling and looking up in ecstasy at the luminous 'Lady of the Rosary'. These statues would have either been used at an altar or they may have been placed in the entrance or garden of a house of prayer. They were all-handcrafted and these two are cast in cement with plaster or more cement in the core. The outsides of these remarkably well crafted statues are hand-painted. The posture of this young girl and boy and also the way their clothing is perfectly 'fitted' around their bodies show the skill of the artist. These quality cast and hand-painted statues from circa 1920 certainly stood the test of time. When you look closely you can see some repainted sections (mostly below the waist). However, the overall condition is very good and they are ready to be enjoyed and taken care of by the next custodian(s). The fine quality, their beautiful look and feel due to almost a century of natural wear, their uniqueness and of course what they represent, make them just perfect for collectors of Christian, religious artefacts. And you don't have to worry about them falling over, because with a weight of around 80 pounds each, they are no pushover. With perfect packing & worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days included in our price this unique pair is great value for money. Maximum height x width x depth: 28.7 x 15.4 x 10.6 inches. Weight of the young Francisco statue: 79 pounds. Weight of the girl statue: 81 pounds. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. • Antique Hand Carved Large Size Statue of Saint Joseph and Child Jesus Sculpture
    Located in Lisse, NL
Large and high quality carved antique sculpture of Joseph holding the child Jesus. If you are looking for a great value for money, work of religious art then this quality carved church relic could be gracing your home or monastery or house of prayer soon. This may not have been carved out of the most expensive or hard woodtype, but that is not what this antique is about. This striking and meaningful sculpture is all about the natural manner in which both the little boy Jesus and Saint Joseph have been hand-carved out of wood and how an accomplished sculptor clearly has spent a whole lot of time, focus and dedication to get the details of this large and meaningful sculpture very right. In this case, the hands and feet, the curly hair, the serene facial expressions, the perfectly natural body postures AND the perfect draping of the cloths are the most eye-catching details. Ones that most mortals would never be able to create like this and it will have taken this skilled artisan weeks rather than days to create. We believe that this unique antique is made of basswood or pine and it has been hand patinated (original). This was probably done to make the entire sculpure look more warm and calm (no wood grains taking away anything from the beautiful details we described). This meaningful and quality crafted work of religious art is ready for you to enjoy and, to us, it breathes a holy serenity and beauty that will never fail to impress. No matter where you decide to have it on display, this ecclesiastical antique will never fail to impress and if you already have a place in mind for 'them' then maybe you should be their next custodian. • Old Ecclesiastical Religious Art Sacred Heart of Jesus Plaster Statue Sculpture
    Located in Topeka, KS
Glorious Late 19th to Early 20th Century Ecclesiastical Religious Art Sacred Heart of Jesus plaster statue sculpture upon a gilded wood base. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, his hands only had the wire structure so new hand-molded & crafted hands were created by our professional craftsmen and the wood on the base was bad so it has been given a new gilded wood base. He has many chips in the plaster that have been repaired and the whole statue has been shellacked. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 19th – Early 20th Century. Heaven knows we could all use a little more Jesus in our lives!! Well, your prayers have just been answered!!! This is an absolutely magnificent Ecclesiastical Religious Art plaster statue of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. He is comprised of hand sculpted and hand painted plaster and he stands about 43 inches tall upon a square flat edge gilded wood base. He has handsome, realistic, intricately hand painted facial features, and his glorious dark brown shoulder length hair drapes gracefully upon his shoulders. He wears a lovely, flowing robe featuring the Sacred Heart symbol upon his chest and his beautiful bare feet are exposed at the base of his robe. His enticing hands are open and reaching out as if to welcome you into his arms. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most widely practiced Catholic Faith devotions wherein the heart of Jesus Christ is viewed as a symbol of “God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind.” The Sacred Heart is depicted as a flaming heart shining from behind with divine light, pierced by the lance with a bleeding wound, and encircled by the crown of thorns. And Christian faith depicts it more as a flaming heart, while the wounds and crown of thorns allude to the manner of Christ’s passion and the flames a furnace of ardent love. You can depict it how you choose! We believe that his original home was most likely a wonderful old church where he was admired for many years. Due to his materials, he should only be exhibited indoors…. Which is exactly where we all need the Lord to be anyway… on the inside!!! He will be absolutely divine in your entry way or heavenly in a sunroom surrounded by indoor foliage or faux plants & trees. He has an all-over “perfectly imperfect” aged patina, a few “character enhancing” chips that you would expect given his vintage age, and an angelic aura...
