Stunning Hand Carved Alabaster Sculpture of Moses Grand Tour Italian Antique

About the Item

Top quality carved antique Moses sculpture after the original marble Moses by Michelangelo. If you are a collector of rare and top-quality made, biblical antiques then this hand carved grand tour sculpture could be yours to own and enjoy soon. After finishing his divine sculpture of David, Michelangelo was commisioned by the Pope Julius II to hand carve a marble sculpture of Moses (as part of the tomb of the Pope). Michelangelo Buonarroti created this amazing, over 8 feet tall, original carrara marble sculpture of Moses in the years 1513 to 1516. Over the centuries the work of Michelangelo has inspired other artists and/or sculptors to also try to perfect their artisanship. Over the decades we have owned and sold a number of great sculptures made of all kinds of materials, but this Moses sculpture 'after Michelangelo' is right up there with the most interesting. Besides the quality, the details and the rarity, this antique sculpture would probably have been made for a very well to do European who went on their grand tours. Anyone who would have first seen the original Michelangelo sculpture in Rome, Italy would have been so much in awe that he or she would certainly not hesitate to pay a large sum of money when given the chance to purchase a quality carved alabaster copy. Not only to enjoy and to have on display at home as a statement piece, but also to be able to share their travel stories with family, friends and guests. We could tell you more about, for example, why Michelangelo's original Moses was portrayed with horns, but we assume that whomever is going to purchase this rare and historically fascinating sculpture will already know that. This solid alabaster sculpture from the mid to late 1800s was clearly carved by a highly talented individual from one of the last generations of Italian master sculptors. For anyone to be able to carve a copy of the worldfamous Moses of Michelangelo out of a rock of alabaster, to us, is like the work of a higher power in itself. Thanks to its durability this alabaster sculpture can be enjoyed by you (and your loved ones) for the rest of your lives and by generations after you, provided you handle it with the same respect and care as owners did before you. No matter where you decide to have this majestic Moses on display, people will always want to stop and look at him, because this kind of quality and rarity will never go unnoticed. Apart from one chip to the robe that is draped over his legs, this very rare antique (we have not been able to find another one anywhere in the world) could hardly be in better condition. If you are as impressed with and interested in this rare antique as we are then maybe you should be its next custodian. Italian Grand Tour model of the ancient Temple of Vespasian located in the Roman Forum, Rome. Carved from alabaster, this is a handsome example of a souvenir carving which would have been collected by a European or American sophisticate making a Grand Tour of the ancient sites of Italy.
