This beautifully hand carved and over three feet tall, wooden Sacred Heart of Christ statue is another one of our recent great finds. In our view the sculptor has perfectly managed to capture both the serenity and the 'conscious clarity' of our Lord Jesus Christ. This large and made out of solid wood only Sacred Heart sculpture comes with the most beautiful details. What never seaces to amaze us is how the best sculptors of the early 1900s were capable of, not only capturing the natural body posture, but also how perfectly natural the cloth around His body is shaped. This truly is the work of a master sculptor and that too makes it highly likely that this stunning antique was made for a church, because they usually were the only ones willing and able the kind of money that this, top quality carved, work of religious art would have cost. After being perfectly hand-carved this statue was covered with a layer of a chalk like material, because, as you can see, it was then hand-painted (or polychromed) in red with many golden crosses. All around the base it looks like this statue once suffered some water damage. However, to us that only adds to the ancient beauty of this very rare, large and incredibly well carved antique church relic. What is most important is that this sculpture (and what it stands for) 'speaks to you' or that it 'strikes a cord'. If that is the case then maybe you should be the next custodian of this glorious antique.
