A Victorian Brass Microscope By J.P. Cutts & Sons

About the Item

A Victorian English brass microscope marked ‘J. P. Cutts & Sons / Opticians to her Majesty / Sheffield’. The company operated for most of the 19th Century under many variations of their name, this particular one being in use from 1840-1845. The microscope has a tube that can be raised and lowered via the rack and pinion mechanism visible on one of its sides. It was once part of a larger set that included a collection of swappable lenses and slides, the extant lens being marked ‘4’. Sheffield, England, ca. 1840-1845. This unique object would be a great addition to any collection of antique scientific instruments or science fans.
