1970s Vintage Robert August Sting Surfboard

About the Item

Mid-1970s Robert August Sting with step bottom, serial #2724. Features a beautiful double pin line design on deck with single pin line bottom, complementing the unique step bottom shape design. A great example of a very well preserved 1970s sting surfboard. “Da Sting” as the Hawaiian's called it, was the first winged surfboard ever created and was designed and produced by Ben Aipa in the early 1970s. The positioning of the wing enabled an early release and sharper turn in the pocket of the wave. The unmistakable surfboard outline ushered in one of the most revolutionary moments in surfing history. To this day, the influence of the sting shape can be seen in modern day winged surfboards.
