Vintage 1970s Ben Aipa Sting Surfboard by Rick Hamon

About the Item

Early 1970s vintage surfing’s new Image label Ben Aipa sting surfboard. Shaped by Rick Hamon in the early 1970s. Features the iconic "sting" shape which was a revolutionary surfboard design attributed to renowned Hawaiian surfboard craftsman, Ben Aipa. “Da Sting” as the Hawaiian's called it, was the first winged surfboard ever created and was designed and produced by Ben Aipa in the early 1970s. The positioning of the wing enabled an early release and sharper turn in the pocket of the wave. The unmistakable surfboard outline ushered in one of the most revolutionary moments in surfing history. To this day, the influence of the sting shape can be seen in modern day winged surfboards.
