Weighted Wood Chess Set by John Jaques of London in Wood Box Kings, ca 1950
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a good and complete English handmade wood "weighted" chess set game of 32 pieces, in its original box with a sliding lid, made by John Jaques of London and dating to the mid 20th century period.
The chess pieces are made of turned and carved varnished wood. The bases of ALL pieces are weighted with metal pieces and the bases have a green felt/paper cover.
Weighted sets like this one have a much nicer "feel" when playing.
The pieces in the set are in the Staunton style.
Sizes: Kings: 70mm ( ~ 2.75 inches); Pawns: ~45mm (~1.7 inches)
The set comes complete with its original wood storage box, having a sliding lid and complete with a paper makers sticker to the lid.
Overall a good "weighted" John Jaques chess...

19th C Antique Chess Set Game Regency Shape with 96mm Kings in Pine Lidded Box
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a very good and complete handmade, hardwood chess set game of 32 pieces in a handmade pine box with a sliding lid, which we date to the turn of the 19th Century, Circa 1900.
The chess set is complete with 32 handmade and turned hardwood pieces, ( probably made of boxwood) all in the Regency shape or French Regence style. This Regence style are quite distinctive with the taller pieces and distinctive knights when compared to other designs and have a good "feel" when playing with. The box is handmade of pine with a sliding lid of good colour.
Kings are 96mm high (about 3~7/8 inches)
Knights are 90mm high
Pawns are 48 mm high (about 1~11/16 inches)
Note: Two of the white pawns are smaller replacements but of the same style. Please see images
Overall a very good handmade antique chess...

Antique Golf Bag, Automaten Caddy by Bussey
Located in Oxfordshire, GB
Antique caddie golf bag, George Bussey Automaton Caddie.
A wonderful example of an early auto caddy by George Bussey. This is a rare find indeed as very few of these bags have survived, and they are difficult to obtain. The caddie has a boxwood carry handle and the main body of the caddie is made of mahogany. The boxwood handle is attached to the ash legs via metal rods and a brass mechanism. With this clever design the legs will open out automatically when the lower end is placed on the ground, and will then fold back in when lifted up. The canvas & leather bag for golf balls and the half pencil bag...
