About the Item

Here is a rare pair of nickel-plated iron bookends designed by Carl Auböck III and crafted by Werkstätte Carl Auböck. These bookends were part of a brutalist-influenced collection of nickel-plated iron objects designed and produced from 1968 to the mid-1970s. The collection included six different bookends, ashtrays, coasters and a chess set. Like most of the pieces in this collection, they are unmarked but this design is well-documented. They are somewhat irregular and each bookend has slightly different dimensions--so the dimensions listed are approximate. In addition to bookends, this pair could also be used as paperweights or simply as sculptural objects.
