Antique European Gilt Embossed Leather Folding Room Divider

About the Item

A spectacular antique European (likely Spanish or French) fine quality and elaborately decorated three panel folding screen room divider. Born in the late 19th / early 20th century, richly detailed applique embossed leather on a hardwood frame, heavily embellished classical design, gorgeous reprising stylized acanthus leaf and foliate decoration over a darker ground, polychome decorated, luxurious partial gilt surrounded by brass nailhead studded ribbons of a flowing motion. The back is simply decorated with shades of dark gold coloring. Distressed, patinated finish with expected wear adds distinctive antique character and historic depth. Large size and proportions. circa 1900 Dimensions: (approx) Open: 75" high, 72" wide, 2" deep Closed: 75" high, 24" wide, 6" deep Each panel: 24" Good condition, presents splendidly, beautifully aged, rich, warm patina over the whole, with bright, lustrous sheen, and desirable heavy wear and tear, including overall heavily worn, naturally distressed, lots of antique character, with numerous past restorations and imperfections. Wear and tear commensurate with age and indicative of use, including several large tears that have been stabilized and minor losses to the decorative finished leather. Strong, sturdy and stable rectangular solid wooden panels, good high quality hinges, ready for immediate use. A superb example of functional art, used as an elegant partition instead of a building element, decorative room divider, or simply as a sophisticated artistic object, it's sure to make a statement and become the focal point of any space!
