French patented safe – Marseille – 19th century

About the Item

"CARF, FRENCH PATENTED SAFE – MARSEILLE – 19TH CENTURY" Impressive and rare early 19th-century French safe, manufactured in Marseille by CARF BREVETÉ, renowned for its quality craftsmanship and period mechanical security. This exceptional, museum-quality piece is crafted from interlocking and riveted wrought iron strips, forming a highly resistant structure. The facade decoration is particularly striking, with two ornamental columns crowned with lion heads, a symbol of strength and protection. On the sides, rosettes and geometric relief elements add additional aesthetic value. It comes with its original key, which operates both the main door and a secondary interior door, secured by a latch system. The interior includes two wooden shelves and three upper drawers, adding functionality to the item. The front is finished in polished steel, while the sides feature the original period black paint. It comes with its original wooden base, included in the price. Although it shows signs of wear typical of its age, it retains its authenticity and historical character.
