Pierre Cardin
Best known for creating groundbreaking fashion designs from the 1950s onward, Pierre Cardin enjoyed great success in other design fields, most notably furniture. Cardin’s chairs, cabinets, tables and other pieces share many of the keynotes of his clothing designs. They are simple, geometric, elegant and cool.
Cardin was born in a village near Venice, Italy, and raised in central France. Always interested in fashion, he left home at age 17 to train with a Vichy tailor. After the end of World War II, Cardin moved to Paris and worked for a succession of couture houses, before taking a job with Christian Dior in 1946. Cardin went solo in 1950, and quickly won attention for his novel style. Unlike Dior’s famous New Look, Cardin’s clothes de-emphasized a woman’s curves; his breakthrough pieces like the Bubble dress had, instead, a sculptural quality. In the following decade, Cardin introduced bright tunic dresses and shifts, marketed as the Space Age look and accessorized with vinyl hats and visors.
In the 1970s Cardin expanded his design work into furniture, jewelry and automobiles. (Later, licensing agreements would put Cardin’s name on goods ranging from perfume to sunglasses.) Cardin’s furniture pieces — inspired, perhaps, by the rediscovery of Art Deco design in that decade — feature simple, symmetrical forms, lacquer and figured veneer finishes, and accents in metals such as aluminum and brass.
Whether you are looking for a vintage cocktail dress or a chest of drawers to keep it in, as you will see on 1stDibs, Pierre Cardin offers an option in either that is timelessly chic.

- Pair of Vintage Echo Pink Silk Shell Fabric with Irish Linen Cushion PillowLocated in Belfast, Northern IrelandThis cushion is a one-of-a-kind and part of a sustainability project. It has been created from an up-cycled, recycled luxury fabric, used with the intentions of promoting a more eco-friendly environment by using already existing materials. We both celebrate and cherish the past and take care with rare and precious vintage and antique materials. Through layers of carefully added backing the delicate fabric has been fortified for longevity and thus preserved. (The original designer/brand has been fully credited below) Description: Custom-made one-of-a-kind pair of luxury cushions (pillows) created from an exquisite ‘vintage collection’ silk Echo fashion scarf in a peachy pink color with stylized Classic shell design. A very delicate silk in perfect unused condition and beautifully soft to the touch. From a vintage designer boutique in Palm Beach, Florida. In 1923 Americans Edgar & Theresa Hyman founded ‘Echo’ scarves on their wedding day, naming the company by using his initials. The business grew and was strong enough by 1929 to survive the Depression. Echo was one of the most prominent and prolific manufacturers of women’s patriotic scarves during wartime. They described the wartime culture and encourage optimism through propaganda, many displaying instructional directions. The scarves in this period used nylon and other non-essential fabric. Interestingly in 1984, ‘Echo’ became the sole licensee for Polo/Ralph Lauren scarf...Category

Thank-you for looking. Title: Large Vintage Cartier Jewelry Elephant Silk Scarf with Irish Linen Cushion Pillow Description: Large custom made one-of-a-kind luxury cushion (pillow) created from an exquisite rare vintage pure silk Cartier fashion scarf in a striking print named ‘La Route des Indes’, translating to English as ‘The India Road’. It illustrates exotic elephants in procession adorned with fabulous opulent jewels. They spiral around the square frame one behind the other whimsically ascending in scale. The most magnificent of all leading at the front in a statuesque pose and elaborate decoration. Their eyes are pave set with previous stones of emerald and amethyst and the gold elephants continue along the boarder as well. Cartier is a luxury Parisian empire which originated in 1847 with Louis-François Cartier and is recognised all around the world for their high end creations. The lavishly bejewelled exotic oriental creatures appear to be a reference to the brand’s signature necklaces, bracelets and earrings; ‘Tanjore’, and ‘Djigar’ necklaces, “Rajastan’ bracelet and ‘Gupta’ brooch. This particular peachy coral pink with jade green accents and a glorious subtle sheen is one of the most spectacular examples we have come across. The fabric was personally hand-picked by Katie at antiques market ‘Marche aux Puces Saint-Ouen’ on the outskirts of Paris. On a sumptuous silk soft to the touch. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo cloth...Category
