About the Item
Sleek and functional; ingeniously beautiful Organic Modernism. From the creators of the iconic folding "Plia" Chair, we bring you the folding "Planta" coat & umbrella stand. Made in Bologna, Italy by Anonima Castelli and designed by Giancarlo Piretti.
In fully enclosed form, the stand takes the form of an uncluttered sculptural object consisting of a clean vertical tubular design with tulip base. Once required to function as a coat stand, up to four individually articulating limbs blossom from the crown. In inclement weather, two stylish loops swivel out to hold umbrellas that align with drainage holes to catch the water.
This piece is in good condition. Some signs of wear, consistent with age and use. Does not detract from the aesthetic of the piece.
anonima castelli was established in 1877 by ettore castelli as a cabinetry workshop.
following a gradual change over the years, between the 1960s and 1980s the company started one of the most enterprising and innovative projects in the world, working together with leading figures of italian and international design:
emilio ambasz, rodolfo bonetto, nilo gioacchini, giancarlo piretti , charles pollock, f.a. porsche, richard sapper, claudio bellini, michele de lucchi, doriana and massimiliano fuksas, gino gamberini, enzo mari and mario ruiz. the company's products soon became iconic and were chosen to furnish important presidential offices of banks and large industries.

Giancarlo Piretti
Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1940. He attended art schools there and subsequently taught Interior Design. During that time, he was also designing furniture for Anonima Castelli. He has won numerous awards and has items in many museums, including MoMA, New York. He still lives and works in Bologna with his son, designer Alessandro Piretti.
