Antique Chasuble Religious Vestment Embroidered Textile, 3 Pieces
Located in Antwerp, BE
Three beautiful early 19th century religious Christian choir cap or chasubles for priest, woven with golden metallic wires, and beautiful floral design. These chasubles were used in the church as choir uniforms for special Catholic occasions. Roman style Cope made of a high quality fabric. The cope is finished with a golden fabric tape and fringe. The clasp closing in the front regulates the size on the neck. The choir cap, choir mantle or vesper mantle (in Latin pluviale, cappa or mantum) is a wide liturgical vestment that hangs down to the feet and is worn by clergy. The choir cap has a choir cap closure or agraaf, varying from a simple hook to richly decorated goldsmithing, and a carved hood (in the Netherlands: shield) on the back. This robe is worn by priests, deacons and subdeacons of the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Church at certain ceremonies such as the Hours, the Asparagus me, during the Praise and Sacrament processions. In the Lutheran churches of Scandinavia, the choir cap is also still worn, even by the pastor during the Eucharist/Lord's Supper. The choir cap has more or less the shape of a semicircle. Well-known examples of choir caps can be found in the Netherlands in the collection of Museum Catharijneconvent in Utrecht. Use in liturgy The choir cap differs from the chasuble in that it has the shape of a mantle with a closure at the front. In the new form of the Roman Rite (Novus Ordo Missae), the choir cap is no longer worn during Mass: the appropriate vestments are then the chasuble (priest) and the dalmatic (deacon). The tunicella (subdeacon) is also worn only in the traditional form of the Roman Rite. In this Tridentine rite there is the use of the assistant priest who does wear a choir cap during the (solemn) mass (with assistance). The choir cap is also worn in that rite when the faithful are sprinkled with holy water during the Asparagus me or the Vidi aquam before the mass of the students of the faith. When the holiest of all is placed in the monstrance, the choir cap and stole are white. For the hours (divine office...
