Antique Table Lamp in Green Marble and Gilt Bronze
Located in London, GB
A superb quality gilt bronze mounted urn in breccia verde d’Egitto marble, now fitted as table lamp.
France or Italy, late 19th – early 20th century.
Why we like it
Rare and very decorative marble, superbly cast and chased gilt bronze mounts; a splendid table lamp.
This beautiful marble is known as Lapis Hecatontalithos, which translates from Latin (derived from Greek) as 'hundred stones' due to various inclusions of rock. Splendid columns made of this marble are in the Basilica di San Vitale, a 6th century church in Ravenna, Italy, an important surviving example of early Christian Byzantine art and architecture.
May be wired for any country. Lampshade not included.

Yeoward William "Crystal Collection" Pair of English Crystal Goblets
By William Yeoward
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. We have another goblet identical to these that we sell single (posted on 1stdibs).
Iconic and precious crystal goblets; they have been made from the highest quality lead crystal with a thickness that is thick enough to allow them to be ground deeper than normal, which allows the light to reflect in a much brighter and more brilliant manner; for this to happen, the geometry of the grinding has also been specially designed and executed. The glasses are a delightful combination of intricate cuts and engravings and feature some of the most beautiful motifs of the 18th and 19th centuries. Every detail of the decoration, such as the glittering star wheel, is cut entirely by hand, with hours of specialized labor required to complete each piece achieving a very high standard of quality. The glasses were made in London (England) between 1995 and 1996 by the William Yeoward company, whose name they bear on the bottom (see photo), and are one of the most attractive designs in the "William Yeoward Crystal...

'Les Quatre Eléments' by Pierre Victor Galland
Located in Brighton, West Sussex
Pierre-Victor GALLAND (1822-1892)
‘Les Quatre Eléments’
Four, oil on canvas.
France, Circa 1873.
Each painting depicting one of the cardinal elements personified as a female figure in the presence of its most evident attribute. Painted with strong light and colour.
Earth panel depicts one of the four elements in a compelling fashion with an ascendent female figure robed in flowing drapery with foot and arm extended reaching skyward: each with attendant putti below.
Earth is shown swathed in robes of greens and white, with a fanciful foliate headdress of lush leaves and bullrushes.
Air leaps effortlessly into the sky draped in blush pink and holding a slender fruiting bough.
Fire ascends dramatically into the sky holding forth a flaming torch and draped in bright burnished orange and grey, her image seemingly lit from a fire kindled below by an ignipotent putto.
Water suitably draped in billowing azure blue with a translucent undergarment, holds aloft a bubble representing water is portrayed with shimmering translucent wings, an attendant winged putto pulling at her hem.
Under the Second Empire, Haussmann’s transformation of Paris went hand in hand with the construction of luxurious mansions for the new haute bourgeois. Gallards extensive work for wealthy patrons such as Lionel de Rothschild and Edouard André, led him to become one of Paris’s most admired and sought-after decorative artists. His fame quickly spread and led him to carry out projects outside the capital for, among others, Baron von Derwies in Nice, Prince Narischkine in Saint Petersburg and William Vanderbilt in the United States.

Sculpture Scipione Tadolini the Greek Slave Second Half of the, 19th Century
By Scipione Tadolini
Located in SAINT-JEAN-CAP-FERRAT, FR
Scipione Tadolini was a skilled sculptor whose broad talent covered the neoclassic to the romantic movements. His ancestors from a dynasty of Roman sculptors exerted a profound and lasting influence on the artistic production of the Eternal City. The Greek Slave fully demonstrates his masterly talent and serves as a reminder of antique models and the orientalist influences characterising the second half of the 19th century.
Scipione Tadolini graduated from the Roman Academy and worked with his father on a series of celebrated portraits and ecclesiastical sculptures for Roman churches including a bust of Cardinal Giuseppe Alberghini for the Gesù (1847) and portraits of various members of the Cini family for the Church of Sant’Andrea della Valle (1844, 1846). Tadolini is also known as the author of a number of large-scale monuments for patrons around the world including an equestrian group of Simon Bolivar for the city of Lima, Peru. One of his best known sculptures is The Greek Slave which appears in his work from the late 1850s forward. The Greek Slave was created in several sizes in two variations: with the figure’s hand either raised to her chest or to her chin. The small number of versions all indicate the sculptor’s careful attention to the human form and passion with exoticism, which can be noticed through the tumbling folds of the present figure's headdress and the finely articulated jewellery...
