Sculptural effigies of domesticated animals were often interred in the tombs of nobility and elite members of the social hierarchy. Models like this one were made to represent everything from simple goat or pig pens to the most elaborate towers and palaces. Because very few ancient Chinese buildings have survived intact, these models, along with descriptions from ancient texts, give a good representation of what the buildings might have looked like.
This fantastic piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Burial figurines of graceful dancers, mystical beasts, and everyday objects reveal both how people in early China approached death and how they lived. Since people viewed the afterlife as an extension of worldly life, these figurines, called mingqi, sometimes referred as “spirit utensils” or “vessels of ghosts” disclose details of routine existence and provide insights into belief systems over a thousand-year period. The tiered shelf with egg and dart, (symbolic of good and evil) moulding, above the frieze, which is centered with a rectangular tablet, superbly sculpted with a Bucranium mask of an ox skull. This has horns and a jeweled decoration adorns the skull above the eyes, the horns are draped with bunched, knotted ribbons, which hold swags of tied bell flowers, the other end of which are secured and fall from circular, flower decorated paterae. This is flanked by Brocatelle panels and recessed, statuary end blockings. The jambs with pilaster Brocatelle uprights, flanked by statuary out grounds with scrolling volutes decorated with sprigs of foliage. The opening with moulded edge, the whole raised on foot blocks.

This is a very good, beautifully proportioned, crystal cut lead glass Spirit Decanter with a mallet shape and three flat cut neck rings, with its original lozenge stopper, circa 1790.
This decanter is really well proportioned and elegant, with the mallet taper shape, which first appeared in the George 111rd period from circa 1765. It has three spaced flat cut neck rings, which give a very good grip when pouring. The body has vertical fluting around the shoulder and a herringbone fringe of finer cuts around the base.
This decanter has its original lozenge cut stopper and is a very good fit to the decanter.
The decanter is made from Lead glass with a soft grey color.
This is a spirit or small wine decanter size having a Volume of about 500ml.
