Antique Art Nouveau Ceramic Table or Mantel Clock with Bronze Flower Sculptures
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and stunning majolica glazed antique clock from the European Art Nouveau era.
If you like rare Arts & Crafts antiques in general and marvelous clocks in particular then this handcrafted table clock from circa 1900-1910 could be the perfect addition to your collection / interior. When you understand how many difficult and time consuming techniques it took to create this antique work of time telling art, will you really be able to appreciate its beauty, rarity and quality. First of all, it would have taken a designer several days, if not weeks, to hand draw this design and this would take multiple sketches. Secondly, a ceramics specialist created the perfectly shaped and glazed majolica 'clock house'. This requires glazing and heating/'baking' in the keln and there too many things can go wrong. Thirdly, the aesthetically beautiful flower sculptures that you now see in gilt bronze, would first have to be sculpted out of clay or another material. From that initial sculpture a mold would have to be made and that mold would then be filled with extremely hot liquid bronze. The bronze sculpture would then have to be sanded, polished and gilt. Fourthly, in both the glazed ceramic clock house and the bronze flowers...

Stunning Antique Hallway or Stairwell Pendant w. Four Bronze Ram Head Sculptures
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and highly stylish, gilt bronze and glass entry hall fixture.
In the earliest days of electric lighting, designers worked closely together with artists & artisans and together they created some of the most beautiful light fixtures made in the history of mankind. For creating these 'works of lighting art' they used some of the most expensive materials and some of the most expensive methods. One of the reasons why such very expensive light fixtures could be made, was, because the potential buyers were mostly people who lived in the largest and most expensive of homes. This gilt bronze and cut glass pendant would have been made for an entry hall with a high ceiling and it would be mounted in the centre of a ceiling rose. The unique combination of gilt bronze ornaments and a stunning cut glass shade, makes this antique pendant an absolute joy to own and look at. This handsome and completely original antique pendant, has rams heads and guirlandes all around the shade, a crown-like gallery on top and leafs and a bronze pineapple underneath. All these antique style elements symbolize something, but with regards to this hallway pendant we particularly like the symbolic meaning of the pineapple, because to many Europeans in the new world they symbolized friendship and hospitality. So much so that families would hang pineapples outside their homes to perfume the entryway and make it welcoming to guests. This striking antique pendant too is wired for safe and immediate usage the world over.
If you like the rarity, quality, beauty and the deeper meaning of this antique hallway...

Mint Condition Heavy Bronze Boxer / Price Fighter Sculpture by Jef Lambeaux
By Jef Lambeaux
Located in Lisse, NL
Powerful bronze sculpture of an athletic and ripped fighter.
This sizable and heavy work of art is as beautiful as the day it was handcrafted. Belgian sculptor Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908) had a penchant for capturing the human physique in motion, with sports and erotic scenes as his favourite subject matters. Since he grew up in the second half of the 19th century, he may very well have seen actual price fighters going at each other in boxing matches. This powerful bronze male boxer in full action is just about to launch an inside right whilst protecting his own head with his left arm and right shoulder. His square jaw line and rugged facial features give us the impression that he is as hard they come. The incredibly well developed muscles in his back and legs confirm that notion as well. The stunning patina accentuates the muscular physique of this bronze fighter and he looks marvelous from all angles. Image 13 shows an interesting detail that you don't find in many bronzes. Here you can see that samples were taken from the bottom of the base to determine whether this bronze had the right composition and strength. It clearly passed the test, because otherwise it would have been destroyed. This sizable and heavy bronze fighter with its perfectly captured fighting posture makes a great statement piece on a desk or side table.
Our price for this rare and mint bronze boxer...

Early 20th Century Japanese Cherry Blossom Screen by Kano Sanrakuki
Located in Kyoto, JP
Cherry Blossoms
Kano Sanrakuki (1898-1981)
Showa period, circa 1930
2-panel Japanese Screen
Color, gofun and gold leaf on paper
Against a backdrop of gold-leafed ground, the lichen covered trunk and branches of the life-sized cherry blossom tree reach out and beyond the confines of the pictorial surface. The overall composition has a feeling of flatness which draws emphasis to the surface and the three-dimensionality of the cherry blossoms. Painstakingly built-up layers of thickly applied shell-white gofun detail the voluminous blossoms and cover large areas of this tour-de-force of Japanese Nihonga painting. By simplifying the background, minimizing the number of colors and depicting the blossoms with such heavy relief, the artist has emphasized the stunning presence of the cherry tree. The type of tree depicted is the Yae-Zakura; a double-layered type of cherry blossom famed for its beauty and strength. When we think of Japanese cherry blossoms, the first thing that comes to mind is Somei Yoshino variety, which has a single flower with five almost white petals. This type is fragile and easily blown away by strong wind or rain. Most of the double-flowered cherry blossoms begin to bloom when the Somei-Yoshino falls, and the flowering period lasts longer than that of the Somei-Yoshino.
Kano Sanrakuki originally studied painting at the Kyoto City Arts and Crafts School under the tutelage of Yamamoto Shunkyo...
