1880-1900 Fine Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rust&Blue Wool Rug

About the Item

This is an antique Shirvan rug from the southern part of the Caucasus mountains and it was woven during the end of the 19th century. The field of this rug is decorated with repeating hooked medallions and its yellow and black borders create color contrast against its red-colored field. The black border has repeating hourglass motifs that are seldomly seen in Shirvan rugs and they make this rug different from the many other Shirvan rugs in the market. The rug has all-natural vegetable dyes and it is in great condition. The measurement of this rug is 248 × 128 cm (8' 1" × 4' 2").

Perhaps the most unique Caucasian in our collection, this Shirvan rug is distinguished with all others as having an original silk siding! This handsome accent piece with all organic dyes have that famous "Arminian red" field with dyes extracted from the pomegranate skin. Although not in great condition, one may want to avoid repairing it for fear of losing...
