About the Item
Lori Pambak rugs are some of the most sought-after Caucasian rugs. Woven in the mountainous Lori region of Armenia, rugs from these region are most renowned for their cruciform octagonal shield designs. The most notable of these rugs have rich blood-red madder grounds and a fine mix of colors throughout the field and border.
The deep madder red field portrays the classic Lori Pambak pattern of a central ivory octagonal medallion with a green, red, and yellow central cruciform. It is flanked by two blue hexagonal medallions with madder hooked shields. At each corner are rare abstractions. Throughout the field are several small boxes, stars, and diamonds and other interesting motifs.
The ivory main border displays extremely stylized floral shapes and is flanked by blue ground minor borders with madder, ivory, and gold zig-zagged lines. The most interior of the minor borders is of attractive gold with polychrome designs. There are four bitonal narrow barber pole lines in the border system.
