19th Century Turkmen Yomut Area Rug in Prayer Pattern in Dark Red, French Blue

About the Item

19th century Turkmen Yomut tribal rug from Central Asia in a geometric design pattern in dark red with accent colors in French blue, brown, and ivory. This Turkmen Yomut is one of the finest tribal weaves from the late nineteenth century. The simple chevron design in light blue and rust colors in a rust color field with a mihrab (prayer rug design) form on top makes for a true collectible piece.     Mid 19th century Persian Kerman Lavar area rug in floral design with ivory, red, and French blue colors. The rug has a gorgeous design and wonderful color combination. The rug has a central medallion in navy blue and caramel with floral designs in red set on a floral design in red and French blue on an ivory background. The corner spandrels are in antique red and caramel. The border is in a cream color with flower design throughout. Although the rug is worn it still has the beauty and shows the craftsmanship of Lavar weavers in the mid 1800s. The village of Lavar is near the city of Kerman on the edge of the great desert in South East Persia. Lavar carpets are world-renowned for their beauty in design and colors used which this carpet well represents. A truly magnificent masterpiece in design and fine weaving from the Bakhtiari tribes of western Persia from the 4th quarter of the 1800s. The theme of the vase design is also referred to as the "Garden of Paradise" in this beautiful 150-year-old rug. The weave in this rug is extremely tight and is referred to as "Bibibaft (Grandmother's Weave)". This is one of the most sought-after designs in the Bakhtiari rugs. The design includes the vase and the birds on the tree branches.
