About

This is a tribal Qashqai rug, hand-knotted by women of the tribal people south east of the Persian city of Shiraz. It was made in the 1960s using hand spun Persian highland sheep wool from the Zagros mountains.

The Motiv shows a King fighting a lion - a sign of braveness and strength. It was made by a bride as a gift to her future husband, showing the hope that he will be stronger than a lion to protect his family. Qashqai wedding rugs often have wool pompoms at their long side - to be seen on the images.

The condition of the rug is very good for its age, it has some lower pile but is a great decorative vintage rug over all.
