This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak runner features a triple medallion design of concentric hooked diamonds spread across an abrashed terra cotta field. The medallions contain scorpion motifs, which represent protection. Matching half-medallions reach from the edges toward the center. The attractive main border displays the classic hands-on-hips motif, known as Elibelinde in Turkish, which symbolizes fertility and motherhood. The motif takes on a hexagonal pattern along the sides and appears doubled along the two ends. A simple saw-tooth outer guard border echoes the angular designs of the rest of the composition. With its rich symbolism, classic design, and a time-softened color palette, this vintage Oushak runner would be a warm and inviting presence in any interior.
