A beautiful contemporary interpretation of a rare 19th Century example, finely handwoven in Turkey with naturally dyed colours and hand-spun wool. The subtle sky blue field creates a wonderfully calming effect, and the splash of terracotta adds a sense of harmony to the overall drawing. It is framed by a tasteful border.
Ziegler Sultanabad carpets were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the late 19th Century, to complement European furnishing tastes. Their unique, grand scale drawing, quiet formality and understated colours made them sought-after additions to grand homes across the UK and Europe.
