A splendid pair of 19th Century Anglo-Indian carved ebony open arm library chairs; finely carved in solid ebony.  From the Galle District, Ceylon (Sri Lanka). The shaped crest rails finely carved with a large central scallop shell flanked by scrolling foliage; above shaped caned backs with styff leaf and reeded frames, having long scrolled arms headed with scroll corbels and terminating within S shaped scrolls. The cane seat with moulded frames and leaf carved front rail with carved large flower head corners.  Raised on tapering reeded legs carved with further foliate carved leaves and buns; terminating in castors.
