About the Item

Roger Tallon was born in Paris on 6 March 1929. He attended the Ecole des Arts Appliqués de Paris (now ENSAAMA) and took a preparatory course for the Ecole des Arts et Métiers, which he interrupted to do his military service in Germany in the press service, where he drew comic strips for a magazine published by the army. Appreciated by one of his superiors, who was also one of the directors of Caterpillar-France, he was hired as an art director and then, thanks to an old comrade, as a designer at Du Pont de Nemours2. In the autumn of 1953, he joined Technès, the design and engineering firm founded in 1949 by Jacques Viénot, the father of industrial design. At the École des arts appliqués in Paris, he attended the first design course in France, created by Viénot in 1957 and taught by Pierre Lesellier. After Jacques Viénot's death in 1959, he continued to work with his son, Henri Viénot, who took over the management of the company before founding his own agency, Design Programme, in 1973. In 1963, he was awarded the prestigious post of studio head for the newly created industrial design department at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. Roger Tallon died on 20 October 2011 in Paris.
