Egon Eiermann for Wilde + Spieth Set of Six Armchairs

$775per item

About

Egon Eiermann for Wilde and Spieth, armchairs, beech, leather, leatherette, Germany, 1960s Famous postwar German architect Egon Eiermann designed these armchairs for German manufacturer Wilde + Spieth in the early 1960s. This armchair reminds of the chair SE121 which Eiermann designed for the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche in Berlin. Yet these chairs feature armrests consisting of a strap of black leather. The seat in black leatherette is adjusted to the frame with straps which is a wonderful detail that can be seen in the back. The frame and backrest in beech wood show natural grain, that combines well with the black elements. Remarkable detail are the three gaps in the frame that characterize the chair from the side. As we currently have a large amount of these chairs in our collection, this model is a great choice to furnish a sizeable space, for example a lobby, dining area, conference room or a café. German architect and furniture designer Egon Eiermann (1904-1970) was at the peak of his career in postwar Germany. He studied architecture at Technische Universität Berlin. German architects Heinrich Tessenow and Hans Poelzig had strong impacts of Eiermann's work. After World War Two Eiermann began teaching at the university of Karlsruhe and opened his own office. One of his most famous projects is the new part of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche at Breitscheidplatz in Berlin. Besides his work as an architect Eiermann prove his taste and comprehension of craftsmanship with designing timeless furniture. Please note that the leather, leatherette and the wood show patina and signs of age and use. The shown price, is the price per item.
