French early 19th century 1st Empire Period Mahogany and Ormolu armchair

About the Item

A stately and high quality French early 19th century 1st Empire Period Mahogany and Ormolu armchair. This solid Mahogany desk/armchair is raised by 'S' scrolled Mahogany legs decorated at the bottom by Ormolu lion's paws while at the top are impressive open winged Ormolu lion mounts. Above the lions are Ormolu rosettes and intricately detailed acanthus leaves. The rosettes flank a recessed rectangular Mahogany band at the frieze decorated by elongated Ormolu palmette mounts. The curved back showcases the same mounts as the frieze while at the center of the back is a striking female maiden surrounded by a laurel wreath flanked by pierced palmettes and foliate scrolls. The arms are richly decorated by additional lions heads below rosettes.
