Pair of Lounge Chairs with Curved Oak Armrests, Denmark, 1940s

About the Item

These unique armchairs perfectly reflect the quality and craftsmanship of Danish cabinetmakers and the instantly recognizable features of Scandinavian design. Danish designers’ particular predilection for curved shapes and natural wood is clearly visible here. The warm oak with visible grain and the organic, winding curves of these chairs resemble the tilt of the human body. Seats that look comfortable and more natural still attract people the most. The friendly, rounded shape of the armrest and backrest is a hallmark of Danish modernism. For stylish button quilting as decoration, the emphasis is on the round, flowing lines of the body and the wooden structure. A unique visual feature of this chairs are the curved oak armrests that dominate the entire design. Not fully lined with fabric, the design of these easychairs is creative and praises the carpenter. The short, tapered legs help keep the design looking cozy while contrasting beautifully with the light upholstery. From the frame to the upholstery, those armchairs guarantees quality and longevity. While these advantages are important, Danish cabinetmakers have never run out of design. In the case of these chairs, the wooden legs and rounded edges stand out even under the nice to the touch, luxurious fabric. Sensuality was achieved through rounded shapes upholstered in a delicate, beautiful and cozy fabric. These features make these armchairs a perfect idiom of Danish design.
