About the Item

A pair of "Carimate" armchairs in lacquered beech, designed by Vico Magistretti. Vico Magistretti (1920 - 2006) was an Italian architect (as well as the son of an architect) and industrial designer, who graduated from the Politecnico di Milano in 1945. He was a follower and admirer of Ernesto Nathan Rogers (1909 - 1969) an Italian architect, writer and educator, whose work and ethos was instrumental in the Italian Rationalist Movement. He is an icon of Internationally Recognized design, with pieces in important museums and residences around the world. The Carimate chair was designed in 1959 for the Carimate golf club (Carimate, Italy) in this exact color way and material option (red lacquered frames and rush seats); this pair dates to the late 1960s and is in very good original vintage condition with some surface and natural age wear. They are structurally in excellent condition and attributed to Cassina production based on date attribution and age. Both are marked “Made in Italy” to the underside of the wood frames.
