Daybed "Luxor" by Sergio Rodrigues for OCA, Brazil, 1965
By Sergio Rodrigues
Located in Antwerp, BE
Daybed; Luxor; Sergio Rodrigues; OCA; Brazil; 1965; 1960s Design; Bench; Brazilian Design; Wood; Furniture designer; Architect; Rio de Janeiro; Daybed "Luxor" designed by Sergio Rodrigues for OCA in Brazil, 1965. This well-designed daybed shows a solid construction of straight lines and round edges, which gives this piece a peaceful yet strong expression. A minimalistic frame with slats to support the mattress. The mattress is upholstered with high-quality off-white fabric, which looks great in contrast with the wooden frame featuring a warm colour and patina. This design is characterized by a minimal, clean approach that seeks to combine functionality with beauty. This Brazilian daybed is in excellent condition and would be a great addition to each mid-century modern interior. Sergio Rodrigues (Rio de Janeiro, 1927 - Rio de Janeiro, 2014) was a furniture designer and architect who broke away from paradigms to invent his own language in search of the Brazilian identity and harmoniously integrated the three areas in which he worked: architecture, design, and drawing. He joined the National School of Architecture of the University of Brazil (FNA) in 1947. In 1949, he worked as assistant professor for David Xavier de Azambuja, who, in 1951, invited him to participate in the elaboration of the project of the Civic Center of Curitiba, with the architects Olavo Redig de Campos (1906-1984) and Flávio Regis do Nascimento, through who he met, Lucio Costa (1902-1998). Rodrigues graduated in architecture in 1951. He moved to Curitiba, where he founded Móveis Artesanal Paranaense, in partnership with the Hauner brothers, who in 1954 hired him to lead the interior architecture section of the new company, Forma S.A, in São Paulo. It was during this tenure that he came into contact with other renowned designers such as Gregori...

Vintage Brazilian Sofa in Rattan
Located in Milano, IT
This original vintage sofa in wood and rattan is of fine Brazilian manufacture. The structure is very particular with the front legs, characterized by rigid lines and sharp curves, that rise to become the armrests. The rear legs are attached to the front ones forming a softer arch in contrast with the rigidity of the armrest. The structure is elegant but minimal: the backrest is attached only to the seat and to the armrest, without compromising the stability. The two seats and backrests are made of woven rattan to form geometrical designs and separated by a wooden component. This elegant and original vintage sofa would be ideal to furnish vintage...

Balanço Bench by Rodrigo Ohtake, Brazilian Contemporary Design
By Rodrigo Ohtake
Located in Sao Paulo, SP
The Balanço Bench was created by the Brazilian contemporary designer Rodrigo Ohtake, in 2019. The mix of materials is the differential in this series. While wood is used as a seat, a metal plate, thick and curved, raises the first material from the ground in a light way and with minimal contact, both with the floor and with the wood. The structure is made of stainless steel and Cumaru Wood. Definitely a one of a kind and unique piece. Graduated at FAU / USP in 2009, with a period of studies at the Polytechnic of Milan, Rodrigo Ohtake is always in search of his own architectural style. Passionate about colors and free forms, he collaborated with architects Mario Biselli, Alvaro Puntoni, and Frenchman Patrick Jouin, in addition to working with his father, Ruy, from 2008 to 2016. In addition to working in the offices, he participated as a curatorial assistant in the exhibitions "Viver na Floresta", curated by Abílio Guerra, "O Coração da Cidade: Invention of Spaces" by Júlio Katinsky...

Embira Bench: made in Brazil with pink jequitba wood and natural dyed yarns
By Maria Fernanda Paes de Barros
Located in Jundiaí, SP
Curves and symmetry, comfort and beauty. The Embira Stool is a multifaceted piece that fits into different environments, from the most sophisticated to the coolest. Made with jequitibá wood its feet seem fragile, but support the weight of sitting. A detail that draws attention is the mooring made with cotton threads dyed with the bark of the embira’s tree, collected on the surroundings of the Kaupüna Village, in the Xingu Indigenous Territory, Mato Grosso, Brazil. A passion for wood, symmetry, and flexibility. It is impossible not to fall in love with the structure of the “oca” (the name used to designate the Mehinaku indigenous people homes). The lightness that is counterbalanced by force is impressive. The curvature that the pindaíba trees, thin and long, allows, the solidity found in the cinnamon wood that permeates the earth to bring security, and the incredible embira bark that unites everything, eliminating the use of nails. These are all raw materials found in the surroundings, within sight, that have only their uses reviewed, showing that it is always possible to find a new meaning for what is around us and in our life. It is part of Yankatu's Xingu collection...
