Rustic Beam Bench Stained Pine Blackened Steel by Alabama Sawyer
About the Item
Our beam bench utilizes reclaimed pine logs for a rustic bench. Narrow and backless, the simple lines express the natural texture of the end grain of each species. The 12" x 12" beam is milled and finished to sit on a modern steel base. A luscious mahogany stain accentuates the grain, while a low sheen urethane finish protects it. The beam bench brings primitive beauty. The wood will continue to move and the finish to patina over time. Cracks, knots and variation is part of the beauty of these pieces. The urethane finish is appropriate indoors or outdoors, but any wood exposed to the elements will show wear and age.
Covered outdoor is preferable to complete exposure to the elements. Regular maintenance, frequency depending on the weather, will extend the life of this product. Steel is coated and polished with a black patina and wax, but it will rust if outside. Wood may move to expose bare pine underneath.

Alabama Sawyer
At Alabama Sawyer, we design modern, environmentally sustainable products from fallen trees in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Since we began in 2014, we have diverted hundreds of logs from the landfill by transforming them into award-winning furniture and products for homes and businesses. Instead of letting trees waste in a landfill, we gather them from municipalities, businesses and homeowners to give them a second life. Urban wood has character. Urban wood has knots, burls and insect holes. It’s not "perfect" — it’s unique, one-of-kind and stunningly beautiful. The constraints and adaptations of growing in the urban forest creates character. We handle each log individually with an eye for the best cut. Then we mill it to show off its inner beauty. Our wood is better for the environment. Urban forests give us cleaner air and cooler temperatures. A living tree provides great value to the community — so can a repurposed one. Historically, felled city trees are taken to the landfill to decompose. Every year, Americans bury 4 billion board feet of usable hardwood trees in our city landfills. Using urban wood keeps them from releasing carbon back into the atmosphere where it contributes to climate change. Using urban wood in long-lasting furniture doesn't matter unless the design is right. Our furniture won Garden and Gun's overall Made in the South award in 2017. Our products are specified by top designers and architects nationwide and sold in cutting-edge design collections.

Our knife beam bench in walnut utilizes salvaged walnut wood logs for a rustic bench. Narrow and backless, the simple lines express the natural texture of the end grain of each species. The 12" x 12" beam is milled and finished to sit raised by a mild steel base with a black patina. The beam bench brings rustic beauty at a variety of lengths. Cracks, knots, saw marks and variation is part of the beauty of these pieces. The wood will continue to move and the finish to patina over time.
The knife walnut beam bench makes a cozy coffee table in a den or living room or low table in a mud room or entry hall for flexible use as a place to place packages and bags or to remove shoes.
