About the Item

Costes chair is a stunning armchair that was designed by Philippe Starck and was manufactured in Italy by Driade. This chair was designed for the Parisian cafè by the same name that is no longer in business and owes its success to form: a dark wooden embracing structure and three tilted legs. Some design objects are universally recognized as icons, as is the Costes armchair, which was designed in 1984 and marked the beginning of the partnership between Philippe Starck and Driade. For indoor use only. Condition: good with inevitable signs of age and use as shown in the photos (the body has probably been repainted) Philippe Starck (born 18 January 1949 in Paris) is a French architect and designer. He began his career with the production of inflatable furniture in 1968 and subsequently received important job assignments. In 1974 he settled in the United States and then returned to Paris two years later. He founded the company Starck Product (1979) to commercialize previous creations. Particularly famous is the Juicy Salif juicer, designed in 1990 for Alessi and which has become a "cult object". He held the position of professor at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs. 1968 Driade is born, an Aesthetic Laboratory always in progress It was born in 1968 on the initiative of a founding group made up of Enrico Astori, a director who determines product and communication policy by directing choices; Antonia Astori, designer and author of the architectural face of the company; Adelaide Acerbi, head of image and communication. Driade immediately established itself for the quality of an original proposal and a highly innovative industrial policy, which confronts three specific problems of the project: the conception of a program, its implementation, its communication. Producing design furniture as individual designer objects according to the logic of collecting, this is how Driade develops as a designer factory.
