Charlotte Perriand counts as one of the masters of French modernist design together with Le Corbusier, Jean Prouvé or Pierre Jeanneret. Her works are highly valued until present time and have become design classics.
This stool is not only a fantastic piece, it’s a design icon. Finally, it’s one the most famous item of all Perriand items. That stool is very simple, almost primitive. Reminding to the stools of the mountain farmers from the French Alps, used for milking cows. Charlotte Perriand was very inspired by the French mountain world. They have been designed for simple living. Charlotte Perriand was a Communist and wanted to make good design affordable for anyone. The flexibility to move furniture easily was at that time before „Ikea“ still very unusual. Each stool has its own character and that makes them so unique and different to all the industrial design, where every item is 100% same. Charlotte Perriand created sensual designs that are not only timeless but historical.
Authenticity: We sell only authentic mid-century objects. The owner of the gallery picks each piece on his own. We buy all objects unrestored, so all traces and important indicators of authenticity are visible. All wooden parts are original. We don’t replace damaged parts by new once or from some other damaged Jeanneret pieces. The patina is very important and during the restoration we try to preserve as much as possible of it. Old cracks, many layers of scratches, old traces of worn lacquer, distortions of the beams or the oxidation of the wood because of peoples touch are important signs of authenticity. There are many fake objects that never have serious provenance papers, so it's smart to buy from experts. We add a “Certificate of Authenticity”.

The owner studied architecture at the elite university ETH in Zurich. Soon after the opening of his gallery in Zurich Downtown he focused on Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand and Le Corbusier. Finally he's got one of the biggest experts for Chandigarh objects worldwide. You are welcome in our new showroom of 450m2 in our two glass houses, where we show a selection of raw design master pieces.

Charlotte Perriand
A pioneer of modernism in France, Charlotte Perriand was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century design and architecture. In her long career, Perriand’s aesthetic grammar constantly evolved, moving from the tubular steel furniture of the Machine Age to a lyrical naturalism.
Perriand’s studies at the Ecole de L'Union Centrale de Arts Decoratifs left her enthralled by Le Corbusier and his vision of a new, rational architecture. In 1924, she joined his studio to design furniture along with Pierre Jeanneret, Corbu’s partner and cousin. Together, they devised some of the finest examples of early modernist furniture, including two icons of the era: the B306 chaise with its swooping frame and hide upholstery; and the chunky, steel-framed Grand Confort club chair. Collaborative design produced another Perriand triumph: in the early 1950s, she and Jean Prouvé were engaged to produce desks, worktables and bookcases for the University of Paris. The bookcases — slim pine shelves with brightly painted aluminum dividers — are minimalist masterpieces.
By the end of that decade, Perriand’s aesthetic had changed completely from the earliest days of her career. She produced a series of furniture in ebonized wood: chairs with gentle S-curve legs, front and back; tables with elliptical tops. In the mid-1960s, she adopted an almost rustic look, designing simple chairs with dowel-cut frames and rush seats. Yet everything in Perriand’s oeuvre is beautiful, whether it’s the centerpiece of a décor or an accent. Charlotte Perriand’s work is in every great design collection, public and private.
