About the Item

This set of two contemporary collectible design chairs, are made from steel with black leather upholstery, and designed by female artist / designer Roos Schneijderberg. The two slightly different, one of a kind chairs, called 'The Twins', are sold as set. The two chairs differ subtly from each other. Several oblique lines are mirrored, making the chairs look strikingly similar yet not quite the same. One variant has a modest lightning flash on the lower right side view, the other variant on the left side view. One version has a backrest sloping to the right, the other to the left. The seats of the chairs also have a mirrored slanting back line. The frames of the chairs are made of steel with a modestly shiny translucent coating. The welds are still visible through the lacquer. A detail in line with the Japanese Wabi-Sabi philosophy: that objects where imperfection is visible as traces of their history, have more value. In this case, the making process - the handwork - is cherished. Please note that the chairs due to the straight architectural backrest and a relatively small seat, are not designed to comfortable sit on. The chairs are more decorative objects, although sitting on them is possible. In addition to the two black leather pieces, there is also one white leather version available (see picture). If desired, it is also possible to combine a set of one white leather piece with one black leather piece. It is best to let us know through 1stDibs-message if you would prefer this combination. Roos Schneijderberg is a Dutch multidisciplinary creative. Her work includes conceptual furniture, sculptures, mixed media objects, video installations, paintings, and scenery creations. Her style is sophisticated yet bold presented with some serious lightness. Introspection, femininity, and a refined abrasive interaction between imperfection and aestheticism are recurring themes in her oeuvre.
