About the Item

Mathieu Matégot Set of 2 chairs and 2 armchairs in wrought iron 1950 from the "Carré d'As" series Seats in Ruguitule Armchairs : H. 92 x W. 47 x D. 50 cm Chairs : H.92 x W. 47 x D. 48 Seat Height : 43 cm A trailblazer, Mathieu Matégot (1910 - 2001) was one of the key players in post-war design, leaving his mark on the 50s style. No one embodies the playfulness, grace and airy elegance of the Fifties better than this unusual designer. His stroke of genius came in 1945, when he pioneered the use of perforated sheeting, a material he had discovered during his captivity in Germany and which he used for most of his work. In 1952, he patented and named this lace-thin openwork mesh "Rigitulle". A true geo-trouve-tout, he developed a machine capable of folding, pleating and shaping sheet metal in the manner of fabric, giving him enormous freedom of expression. Now reissued, Mathieu Matégot's creations are timeless: design classics! Source : Made in Design
