Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel Set of Four 'Badminton' Chair in Black Leather

About the Item

Nanna Ditzel, 'Badminton' chairs, steel, leather, wood, Denmark, design 1958, production 1960s. This set of five chairs by Nanna Ditzel and Jørgen Ditzel were designed in 1958, originally for the Glostrup County Hospital near Copenhagen were they were to placed in the auditorium. It was a requirement that the chair should be stackable and connectable in rows, which are both qualities of the ND150. The fact that these chairs have these functional qualities make them suited for large (public) spaces. This set consists of six pieces without armrests. The seat and backrest are executed as a laminated shell and the construction is made of tubular steel. Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) was a cabinetmaker and became a furniture designer in 1946, and worked together with her husband Jørgen Ditzel (1921-1961). Nanna Ditzel was a designer who was focused on the use, need and function of furniture. Her style is therefore very approachable and useful but at times also bold and experimental. Ditzel made use of innovative techniques and materials. Please note that these items are in used condition and show signs of wear and use common for their age. We kindly ask you to reach out to our design specialists for further information.
