About the Item

Plia chairs by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli Six Plia chairs model Canè rare version of the famous chair by Anonima Castelli. The Plia chair was' presented in its best-known version, with a polypropylene seat, at the 1967 Milan Furniture Fair. Canè is a version that features the iconic steel frame with three-disc pivots and a wood and Vienna straw seat also known as Canetè. Designed by Giancarlo Piretti, a designer who graduated from the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts in Design. Still active today, Piretti has been the recipient of numerous National and International awards during his career. Produced by Anonima Castelli, a company that saw its birth in Bologna in 1877 as Ebanisteria Castelli, a small workshop run by Ettore Castelli. Castelli became a supplier to a number of public agencies in the early 20th, thus managing to expand with two factories. In 1939 the new company Anonima Castelli spa was formed, expanding its factories, even creating a division specializing in seating, DSC where Piretti designed Plia. The manufacture's label is present on the chairs. The chairs are in excellent state of preservation, have no structural defects, and the straw is in very good preserved condition. They show slight and obvious signs of time.
