De Sede DS-142 Adjustable Chaise Longue in Leather Upholstery by Winfried Totzek
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The lounger is a multifunctional relaxation furniture, where the back and the armrests can be individually and continuously adjusted and brought into different positions. This unusual seating furniture thus becomes a dynamic, relaxation-promoting system for the entire muscula-ture. The extraordinarily versa-tile usability enables complete psycho-physical relaxation; by extending the sitting and lying with legs positioned high to very high, the lounger serves to prevent leg swelling and back pain. The synthesis of elegant form and function is rounded off by the masterful workmanship of high-quality leather just typical of de Sede. The DS-142 thus becomes an ideal and versatile recliner. Who better to design a piece of seating furniture than a doctor like Dr. Winfried Totzek...

De Sede DS-149 Armchair in Select Cigarro
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Because her grandparents were tailors, designer Miriam Amelung knows the characteristics of fabric and leather down to the tiniest de- tails. In her new, elegant armchair DS-149, natural folds, organic ergonomics or the intense feeling of lightness are thus essential components – as is her dedication to the material: when Miriam and Sebastian Amelung created this new de Sede sculpture, they thought about how the natural folds of a hide might look like on a comfortable armchair. The result is an object that is free from orna- mental add-ons or special effects and is simply an armchair whose form, folds, curves and upholstery create a feeling of taking a heavenly rest break on a little cloud...

Sofa Djinn Model by Olivier Mourgue in Yellow Fabric
Located in Milano, IT
Vintage Djinn two-seater sofa designed by Olivier Mourgue in 1965 for Airborne. Metal frame lined with foam and covered in yellow Kvadrat publisher's fabric. The feet have steel Skates. The Djinn sofa whose shape was inspired by the genies of Arabian culture that can adopt any form, human or animal, is a masterpiece of Space Age design. This sofa is an icon of 20th century design made famous by Stanley Kubrick in 2001, A Space Odyssey. This sofa presents sinuous and typical Space Age shapes. The sofa through its wavy perhaps creates harmony and softness to its seat without neglecting the absolute comfort. Olivier Mourgue. Born in Paris in 1939, Mourgue, starting from the '60s became known for his series of furniture and household objects with a playful and pop look, typical of those years: such as the lamp Flower designed for Disderot in 1967 and the armchair of the Montreal series...

Vintage, New and Antique Chaise Longues

Sit back, relax and get all of the ergonomic support you could ever need by introducing an alluring antique or vintage chaise longue in your living room or by your outdoor fire pit.

The chaise longue is an upholstered piece of furniture that was made popular in France in the early 16th century. This low reclining seat — a “long chair” in English — boasts an elongated form and low back that extends about half the length of the furnishing, affording the welcome opportunity for a sitter to put their feet up and relax. A comfortable common ground between sofas and daybeds, early iterations of chaise longues were discovered in Ancient Egypt and were later frequently used in both Greece and Rome.

In the late 1700s, the first chaise longues were imported to America, and English speakers have struggled with the name ever since. (In the United States, the term is frequently spelled “chaise lounge.”) So, how do you pronounce chaise longue? It sounds like “shayz lawng,” but limiting it to shayz is perfectly acceptable in the States.

Antique Victorian chaise longues and 19th-century chaise longues bring luxury and perhaps extravagance to your living space while mid-century modern chaise longues, designed by the likes of Adrian Pearsall, Vladimir Kagan or Milo Baughman, can alter an interior with dazzling geometric contours and richly varied textures.

On 1stDibs, find many kinds of chaise longues for your home — from sculptural works by Charlotte Perriand to plush and velvety Louis XVI pieces to minimalist contemporary versions to suit your understated decor.
