WIREFLOW Chaise longue by Michel Rojkind for Driade

About the Item

We designed the Wireflow chaise longue creating a soft and flexible shell, evoking simple and fluid lines with particular emphasis on ergonomics and comfort. The intention of the metal frame design is to create a continuous organic geometry that flows along a path like energy flowing throughout the body. The leather seams reflect the digitally designed isocurves of the surface that are represented in high quality handcraft stitching. The inspiration for the Wireflow chaise longue came from the concept of subtle movement unfolding in time. The design expresses simplicity, dynamism, lightness and continuity. Wireflow is a large chaise longue made of a tubular frame painted white or black and a moulded shell in flexible polyurethane. The leather upholstery is characterised by a series of "double needle" stitching that create a geometric pattern of the seating surface. The shell is supported by a metal frame made of a high-strength 0,98" diameter tube, curved and shaped. A distinguishing feature of the tube structure is the sinuosity of its path, which embraces and supports the shell by creating a continuous geome- trical "thread". The chaise longue is completed by a large headrest cushion whose height can be adjusted by means of a counterweight to obtain the best seating comfort. MELT CHAISE LONGUE by Nendo for Wonderglass
By WonderGlass, Nendo
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Melt is a collaboration with Japanese design studio, nendo, inspired by the flexibility of molten glass and the force of gravity. The creation of Melt was a unique and complex production. After watching the craftsmen working in WonderGlass’s workshops, Oki Sato from nendo intended to let the material guide the design process. As a result, a method of laying hot glass sheets over steel shapes and suspending them between steel bars was developed, allowing the material’s natural drape to reveal its form. Melt Edition includes Melt Armchair, Melt Bench, Melt Stool, Melt Chair...
