A Pair of Art Deco Leather Club Chairs, France c.1930
About the Item
This extraordinary pair of French Art Deco Club chairs dates to the 1930's and epitomizes modern, streamlined design of the period. They are exceptionally large and voluminous, with sweeping sculptural curves and expanses of soft leather. Sometimes armchairs of this Art Deco subcategory are referred to as "tank" chairs due to the tread-like shape of the arms. They are meant to take center stage in a large room, to be seen as art objects. The chairs are exceptionally comfortable, with retied springs and added stuffing. Even the arms have springs! The leather itself is in very good condition for its age, without significant tears or punctures. It has remained pliable and free of cracks. These chairs are ideal for a great room or chic office lobby.
