Cassina Revers chairs, Andrea Branzi, 5 available in brown, 1993

About the Item

Beautiful 'Revers' dining armchairs by Andrea Branzi for Cassina featuring Brown beechwood arms sculpted in ribbon attaching to aluminum frames with matching seats. Signed with Cassina labels underneath the seats. Designed in 1993, these Post-Modern Italian classics offered a curve-ball to prior Mid-Century Modern bentwood designs such as those from Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. With a Post-Modern spin, the sculptural bentwood arms sinuously flows to connect each of the front legs together while also forming the seat back. Supported by a lacquered aluminum frame in juxtaposition, the use of materials and signature ribbon-like shape - this set of six 'Revers' chairs are quintessential designs for the 1980s and 1990s Post-Modern art movement. While Post-Modern in style and origin, the design also has a space-age futuristic look. Which may be why in 1999 the set designers for Star-Trek's 'Deep Space Nine' show used Revers chairs for the set of Yanas Tigan's home on Sappora VII, image shown in photo gallery. Andrea Branzi, an architect and designer, was one of the founders of Archizoom Associati design group in 1966, established Studio Alchimia in 1976, and in the 1980s worked with the Memphis Group. Branzi also served as the cultural director of Domus Academy and many of his design works are in permanent collections including the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Fine Arts Houston; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and Victoria & Albert Museum, London. This set of six Post-Modern arm chairs by Andrea Branzi for Cassina would be perfect in a Post-Modern or Contemporary room but could also look fantastic in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as side chairs, dining, cafe or breakfast table chairs, bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, conference room chairs, office or desk guest chairs, lobby lounge chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting.
