Early set of "People's chairs" by Børge Mogensen, Beech & Mahogany, 1940s

About the Item

Very rare first edition set of Børge Mogensen´s iconic "People's chair" made in the 1940s for the retailer FDB, where Mogensen was head of design. The chairs are made from beech and mahogany and all 4 chairs retain the original seats in beautifully patinated woven paper cord. Only the very first production was made in mahogany and to find a set of 4 is really amazing. This set was bought directly from the family of the original owner who bought it in the late 1940s. The condition is very good and they haver never been repaired or refinished. Versatile and iconic, the model J39 "People's chair" is recognised for its timeless appeal and lasting durability. Designed by Børge Mogensen and launched in 1947, it has been in continuous production for more than 75 years. This enduring design continues to inspire people around the world with the power of modest expression and sustainable quality.
