Maison Jansen Style Dining Chairs Arthur Elrod Design Home Architectural Digest

About the Item

Set of 8 Dining Room Chairs (all with arms!) in the Style of Maison Jansen from a Palm Springs estate that was so spectacular! It was designed by the legendary interior designer Arthur Elrod for the Goldberg family of Chicago as their winter getaway and was featured in the Fall 1968 issue of Architectural Digest. The house exterior was designed by famed architect William Cody! Mr. Elrod is still considered one of the top 5 interior designers of all time! He was a favorite of Paige Rense and designed interiors for many celebrities worldwide. A beautiful coffee table book of hos amazing work was published a few years ago. The chairs appear to be Maison Jansen but are not marked. The chairs are not in perfect condition, but they are structurally sound. Two chairs have an issue. One chair has a small rip in center back. (See pic) Another chair has a ripped cane seat that got damaged while in storage. We will try our best to fix these 2 things here in Palm Springs, however we have not found anyone yet locally that can do this. If local repair unavailable, will try to have the 2 chairs fixed in Los Angeles or give a discount to fix these 2 issues. The painted diamond pattern (another Maison Jansen detail) painted on the backs are faded on some of the chairs.(Please see pictures). Elrod added custom cut plywood on all 8 chairs seats on top of the cane seat. They are more durable and sturdy that way. Underneath the plywood is the caning that has always been covered. 7 out of the 8 seats are fine. The velvet cushions are the original 1968 ones (at least 55 + years old). They are included to make reupholstering easier. PLEASE NOTE: The chairs are priced below market value and take reupholstering seat and small arm rests into consideration. We purchased the chairs from the late 2nd owner of the estate who treasured their provenance with history of custom ordered and designed by Arthur Elrod and additionally home featured in 1968 Architectural Digest.
