About the Item

A stunning Poul Volther dining chair. This elegant chair was designed for the Danish manufacturer FDB Mobler. Very similar in style and construction to those produced by the English maker Ercol during the mid 20th century. FDB Møbler’s J46 chair is a Danish design classic from 1956. The J46 chair combines a V-shaped spindled backrest with a wide, comfortable seat and quickly found its place in many Danish homes. In a lovely natural beech tone, high quality craftsmanship from a Danish maker The chair is made of beech wood perfect for every interior style. The chair can be used J46 at the dining table at home or standing alone in the hallway or bedroom. The wood used is FSC® certified and comes from European forests. Volther originally trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the Royal Danish Academy School of Arts & Crafts in Copenhagen. Over the years, Volther also taught at the Royal Danish Academy School of Design, influencing hundreds of young designers along the way. Through the course of the postwar years, Volther’s design work exhibited an aversion to short-lived trends in favor of cool, functionalist aesthetics driven by Bauhaus-influenced, rationalist design thinking. He was always eager to try new approaches and experiment with new materials. Poul Volther belonged to a generation of Danish creatives rooted in Scandinavian functionalism. Volther’s work is characterized by a mastery of form, as evidenced by his iconic EJ5 Corona Chair for Erik Jørgensen. Volther’s designs have been produced by many design companies, such as Munch Furniture and Frem Røjle. His famous Corona Chair is considered his most memorable design contribution. It’s been featured in countless movies, fashion shoots, and music videos. Condition: Fully restored condition Still can show signs of age and use. Approx.
