Industrial Dining Room Chairs

INDUSTRIAL STYLE

Industrial floor lamps, bar stools, desks and other industrial-style furnishings have experienced a resurgence in popularity with the rise of interest in minimalist design.

It's a look that celebrates the past even as it suggests vigor, productivity and brawn. The newly chic industrial style of decor repurposes the simple, sturdy furniture of an earlier world of commerce — brushed-metal storage cabinets and display shelves, task lamps and pendant lights with enameled shades, work tables with worn wooden tops and cast-iron bases — and couples them with aesthetic touches emblematic of energy and optimism, from bright upholstery fabrics to flowers.

The rise in prominence of the industrial style has come hand-in-hand with the residential repurposing of former manufacturing and warehouse districts throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. In many loft apartments created in shuttered factories, the architectural envelope has been left intact.

Industrial-style interiors feature elements like raw brick walls, exposed steel beams and oak floors whose history is written in every pit and gouge. Iron and glass transom windows give definition and interest to small kitchen areas anchored by kitchen islands made of marble, steel and brass, while taxidermy or vintage neon signs serve as wall art in living rooms dotted with leather club chairs. Patina is the keynote to a decor in sync with such surroundings.

On 1stDibs you will find industrial furniture designs that wear their age beautifully — and were built to last.

4 DKX-2 Wire Bikini Shell Chairs X Bases Hot Pink Bikinis Eames Herman Miller
Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous set of four DKX-2 wire bikini shell chairs on X bases with Hot Pink Naugahyde bikini covers designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. They are in wonderful vintage restored condition overall. The chairs have had some factory weld modifications and one chair has had repairs to welds. All have a fresh coat of black paint. The bikini covers have been cleaned. There may be a couple small nicks in the bikini covers. Please see photos. Circa 1960s. She wore an itsy bitsy teeny wennie not so yellow hot pink bikini………………..oh! Hello! I know. I get carried away. But how could you not with these absolutely over-the-top cool set of four wire shell chairs with hot pink, yes, I said hot pink, bikini covers? They are on solid X bases and we have ordered new boot feet for them. When the Eames designed the wire shell side chair for Herman Miller in the 1950s it was inspired by trays, dress forms, and baskets. Versatility was one of the Eames design edicts so this chair could be configured in multiple ways. It could be purchased on a variety of bases and without any covering, with a full cover, or with this the half cover which has been nick-named….the bikini. This set of four are circa 1960s. Charles Eames was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1907. Ray Kaiser Eames was born in Sacramento, California in 1912. They met at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and were married in 1941. They moved together to California and continued their design work they began together at Cranbrook. A commission, which they acquired from the government during WWII to produce molded plywood splints and stretchers, launched a career producing iconic Mid-Century Modern furnishings which are still fresh and sought after today. The Eames and their association with Herman Miller were the partnership of the century. If you want to learn more about Charles and Ray please visit Eames Office, the Eames Official website. Herman Miller started life as Star furniture...

Six Restored Kai Kristiansen Oak Dining Chairs Custom Reupholstery Included
Located in Knebel, DK
Set of six restored and refinished dining chairs in oak with adjustable backrest by Kai Kristiansen for Schous Møbelfabrik. The chairs have Kai Kristiansens typical light and elegant design that make them fit in easily where you want them in your home, a design that was so unique that his colleague the famous designer Hans J. Wegner characterized model 42 as beautiful from all angles when the chair was revealed in 1956. The chairs have been fully restored, sanded and refinished by our experienced workshop to insure that they are in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and use and will be reupholstered without additional cost in fabric of your choice from "Kvadrat" / standard leathers from "Sorensen Leather" or for additional price luxury leathers (Elegance, Vegetal, Rustic, Pure and Royal Nubuck). Kai Kristiansen was one of the last pupils of the famous architect Kaare Klint who founded modern Danish design and laid the foundation for the "Danish Modern" style. During the years 1958-1978 Kristiansen worked in his business in Aarhus owned jointly by himself and furniture maker Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999). Kristiansens works met their most intense demand during a few decades from 1950, then production of them was discontinued. However, several of them are now being produced again by the Japanese furniture producer Miyazaki Chair Mill in Tokushima. An Australian producer has also included Kristiansen production in their portfolio. Kai Kristiansen might have been the originator of mass produced furniture, had he accepted an offer from Ikea-founder Ingvar Kamprad. He declined to let himself enroll in the Ikea staff. Kristiansen exhibitions include numerous participations in furniture and design shows in Milano, Paris, Cologne and London. Among his most cherished works is the Paper Knife collection...
