Circa 1880 French Carved Walnut Tabouret or Sellette with Large Lion Paw Feet

More information coming soon… Crafted by an immensely talented woodworker (circa 1880), this French walnut wood tabouret has wonderfully carved lion paw feet. The large paws, which are detailed with tufts of fur, are topped by thick outswinging, volute legs embellished with curled leaves. Several layers of molding, including one adorned with foliage set within linked niches, surround the square sitting surface.

    Repaired: Some of the feet present with old restoration, while one was restored by a professional woodworker more recently. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Good antique condition. Minor nicks and losses. Light evidence of old wood worms, mostly located on the feet and legs. Traces of old restoration, coupled with more recent work to the feet.
