Largest Leather Rhino Stool by Dimitri Omersa for Abercrombie & Fitch, Signed
About the Item
A wonderful and original collectors example of the large-size rhinoceros footstool by Dimitri Omersa for Abercrombie and Fitch.
This impressive size and highly decorative design Rhino footstool has great aesthetic value. This is the largest specimen that we have ever seen and it is in a beautifully used condition. Previous owners have taken real good care of this midcentury made leather Rhino which is why it is still in such good condition. This prime example is signed with the 'Made in England' stamp on the inside of one of the ears. Some minor wear (consistent with age and use), mainly in the form of light craquelure throughout makes this attractive midcentury stool extra desirable and true to its age. Sturdy and 'structurally' sound, this large rhino is ready to be used as a footstool or even as a stool to sit on, as it can support the weight of an average size adult. It is ofcourse the combination of the quality workmanship, the naive design and the striking leather that makes this Dimitri Omersa footstool the style icon that it has become. Because of its timeless design and its neutral warm color this rare size collectible will look great in all kinds of interiors. No matter what you decide to use him for and no matter where you decide to have him on display, this wonderful specimen will never fail to impress and this comfortable stool also makes a great talking piece.
Omersa designed leather animals for Omersa Leatherworks of England, Omersa & Company, Liberties of London and Abercrombie and Fitch. This example was made for Abercrombie with 'Made in England' mark stamped underneath one ear. This superbly handcrafted, early production original is the ideal collector's item and also makes a great interior designer's home accent.
Condition: A small tear on one side (see image 17), a few areas of slight leather distressing (particularly to one ear). Strong and stable and secure. Some light scratches. Desirable and very attractive example. Ready to be used and enjoyed immediately. One of the better early production signed examples.
