Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler for Forma 'Conchinha' Lounge Chairs White Fabric

About the Item

Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler for Forma, 'Conchinha' lounge chairs, iron, fabric, Brazil, 1950s Elegant and modern armchairs by Brazilian designer duo Hauner & Eisler. The thin, elegant frame is made in black painted iron. Due to the diagonal connection and lines of the frame, these lounge chairs get a delicate appearance. The armrest graduate smoothly into the seats. The seat itself reclines backwards giving these chairs a playful dynamic appearance. The white upholstery is a beautiful contrast to the moody and elegant black bases of these chairs. Along with many of the most important Brazilian designers, Martin Eisler (1913-1977) was educated in Europe. He studied architecture in Austria and moved to Buenos Aires in 1938. That same year, he founded an architecture firm and organized an exhibition of his furniture. From 1952 onwards, he worked in São Paulo with Carlo Hauner and Ernesto Wolf to found Móveis Artesanal in 1955, which would later become Forma. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996), like Eisler, studied in Europe at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. After arriving in Brazil in 1948, he dedicated himself to textiles, ceramics, furniture, and architecture. Eisler and Hauner met in 1953, shortly after Hauner founded Móveis Artesanal, a furniture production company. Together, they started Galeria Artesanal, a store to accompany Móveis Artesanal, and designed furniture together. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996) studied in Europe at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. After arriving in Brazil in 1948, he dedicated himself to textiles, ceramics, furniture, and architecture. He teamed up with his brother Ernesto Hauner, with Carlo being the creative force of the pair. In 1951, the Hauner brothers bought Lina Bo Bardi and Pietro Bardi's Pau-Brazil factory, which was renamed Móveis Artesanal. Later, Carlo Hauner associated with new partners Martin Eisler and Ernesto Wolf, with whom he would later create the company Forma. Hauner left a small legacy of mainly upholstered furniture.
